Course Documents -> Module Three -> The Golden Rule -> The Golden Rule
Untitled Document

In the end, we have to make a rule something like "treat others as human in the way you'd like to be treated." In other words, our definitions of human, and our definitions of aliens, and our definitions of animals, rest firmly on the way we see ourselves. Remember that the question "what is human" is one that we're going to be encountering again and again. It's a central question of SF, and, in fact, it's a central question of all literature.

Answering this question could be seen as the task we all have to accomplish--the reason we're here! And it's a question that all art (not just literature) is involved in asking...and answering. In some ways, art might just be the answer to that question.

So go back to the first discussion forum of this Module discussion board button....What is the real essence of humanity?

Don't forget to do the quizes quiz button for the three stories in this module!

Remember, the password is "quiz" (without the quotes, right?)
