Immigrants are people that move from one country to another to improve their financial status or because of personal affairs or in order to obtain a better standard of living. In the United Stated, a large percent of the population are immigrants which makes immigration a big issue in this country. Immigration can bring positive and negative outcomes in a country.
Factories and manufactories are onin favor of immigration because employers can hire workers to work long hours at low wage rates. Labor is one of the most expensive production factors of business because it is not only to pay for the wages but also the workers benefits and employment taxes. Illegal immigrants cannot receive any benefits from the government since they are not citizens. One of my friends works in factory sewing for $1.10 an hour, long hours of work and she is not receiving any bonus or medical cover. Not only factories are willing to hire illegal immigrants but also farmers, households, restaurants, and others.
Having more immigrants will benefit the country as a whole. If there are more legalize immigrants then the government will have more tax payers. With more tax payers more public services will be available for the society. Services like education, welfare, streets reparation, transportation, and health. So everyone wants to receive better public services.
On the other hand having more immigrants can cause over population in the country which is dangerous. Overpopulation can cause environmental problems: a lot of trees are distinguishingdying because when with more people more houses are needed, furniture, and other goods. By killing all those trees the air will become unhealthy because there will be less forests to absorb the pollution created by factories. A lot of people have babies and if we add the larger number of immigrants in our society with each baby they have then the number of the total population will be a large number that excess the limit. Also there some people that just migrated to give birth and receive Medicare free without being citizens. So this is called the free ride dilemma which means that someone who reaps direct benefits from someone’s purchase (taxes).
Another problem with immigrants is that they created job competition. By creating competition for jobs a lot of citizens will be without a job because business will rather hire someone at a lower wage rate. This may increase the unemployment rate causing recession time in the country. Also with more job competition the minimum wages will decrease.
I am from a foreign country and I know we can contribute a lot in the United State. But I think that immigration should be limited because I believe that it’s not fair that in the future I might not have a secure job after finished college. I don't want to have any lung problems in the future with the polluted air. Also, I don’t want to live in an overcrowded society. So immigration should be limited with a law that allows certain amount of immigrants per year.
