My new position paper is a little complicated. The issue that I'm going to talk is very controvertial.

CLOSING THE U.S. BORDERS WILL INCREASE POVERTY

It was said that “every country should open their borders for more wealth equity’’ ( The wealth of Nations by Adam Smith). Nowadays we live in a world where unfortunately the United States of America is the only country of the world that is leading the other nation’s economy. Since the failure of the Soviet Union, many economical changes had happen.

Today, prosperity seems to be everywhere. Unfortunately, only the Industrial and developed countries are the only ones that increase their capital every year. But poverty will increase inside and outside of the U.S by closing the borders toward people, especially in the third world countries or emerging markets of Latin America.

The United Stated of America is no longer the land of opportunities for new immigrants. With new and ridiculous Immigration Laws, including the Patriotic Act. The Bush Administration is using the word terrorism as excuse to shut down the entry to good and honest hard working people that want just a little piece of the American Dream. Meanwhile, this Administration is creating poverty overseas. Regardless of the country, in Latin America there are thousand of families that rely on the remittances that their relatives send them from the U.S. every month. If the U.S. send people back home, entire communities and cities in other countries would go bankrupt. Also, the level of poverty will go extremely high, those families would not have anything to eat. Many children may be searching for food in the garbage. The entire region would struggle. At the same time, the economy of the States would shake down, prices and inflation would be at very high level, basic products like foot, fruit and vegetables would be very expensive. We have to mention that now prices are relatively cheap because most of this immigrant people work for a very low wage. They work for more of 60 hours per week doing the jobs that non American citizen are willing to do. Even though, some politicians in Washington argue the opposite. Unfortunately, they do not recognize that the red and sparkling apples, as well as the juicy oranges from Florida that they eat are being harvested every day by immigrants.

The United States has to understand that for the well being the entire world, borders and restrictions have to disappear. Creating new and fair immigration laws and trading agreements to Latin America would decrease the level of poverty. Thus, people would raise their standard of life. For instance, NAFTA( The North America Free Trade Agreement) had improve the life of thousands of people especially in Mexico. As and example, in Sonora, North Mexico, there are many towns where its citizens have increase their way of living. Before NAFTA, they just to live in poverty. Nowadays they are becoming a solid middle class. All that is due to the manufacture and assembling line companies that had move down there. In an other town, southeast, four hundred miles away from Sonora, we have Atlixco Puebla where most of adults are working here in the United States. Consequently, thanks to the money that they send, their children are going to private schools and having a very high education. Plus, they have a nice and decent home to live. In the near future once they accomplish college, they would have a new world of opportunities. Of course, they would not have to emigrate to the States or any other country.

Certainly, this is a great nation with a very strong economy. This economy is capable to create jobs, money and well-being to almost everybody. I always believe that everything that had been created by human being through time and history is to improve our lifes. I also believe that The United States of America is the key country to eradicate and get rid of the cancer of poverty that affect millions of people everyday. Politicians in Washington should be a little bit more sensitive when they create the new immigrations laws, they should be aware of the damage that could cause when closing the border toward the world outside. We are living in a globalize era where no borders should be among nations. We are in the era of sharing wealth and prosperity. Because in the end, we are all human beings.

Admin: You have tackled a difficult question, and you've done a good job of explaining the issue and making your position clear. But you need to work more at proofreading to find and fix the mistakes in English. There are not so many that they become terribly distracting, but there are more than there should be. B
